From Johannesburg, I took another 2 hour flight to Lilongwe, Malawi to visit Lake Malawi, the home of more than 700 species of colorful Mbuna Cichlids. These colorful fish are a staple for most fish tanks in Aquariums and home fish tanks. Scuba diving, safari, and cultural experiences were part of the excursions.

Seeing the beautiful Mbuna Cichlids in their home lake was a religious experience for me. I have never seen such a large variety of colorful fish in one area at the same time. I did not even have to get into the lake or scuba dive or snorkel to see them. The water is crystal clear and they swarm towards food so quickly it takes your breath away. The Lake is a United Nations Heritage site because of the evolution that the fish have gone through in the lake over the years.
